DAY 5 Yaaaaayyyyy!!
BYE FROM THE COSTA RICAN RESEARCH STATION THAT WE
TURNED INTO A MOVIE THEATRE!!!!!!!! YAAAY J GO TIGERS!
This is Aby, Hayes, Mary Kate,
Jack, and Casey blogging to you straight from a picnic table in the middle of a
Costa Rican rainforest. We just got done with a great dinner of beef and
potatoes, beef and noodles, rice, black beans, rice, red beans, avocado,
pineapple, watermelon, tomatoes, papaya, and some more rice. The beef was a
nice addition!! Today we figured out that the “filtered bottled water” really
is just the sink water that Vicky filters herself up every morning. Today we
hiked to a waterfall and swimming hole in the middle of the forest. It was
surreal. We all took turns diving under the raging waterfall, being sucked
under water, and spit out into the current on the other side of the swimming
hole. Jack and Hayes found out that if you drop a rock under water, it makes a
very loud noise… Great discoveries in the world of science! Mary Kate and Casey
decided to climb up the waterfall, thinking that it would be a good workout for
soccer.
Last night, Hayes retrieved 4
coconuts. Between Hayes struggling to open them with his knife and Jack trying
to rip the husk off with his bare hands, we finally got them open. After being
told that the coconut water that we were drinking was old and rotten, we cut
out the meat and tried to eat that. It’s not as good as you would think. It
tastes like coconut liquor mixed with cat urine and vinegar. Luckily the
coconuts finally got put to good use as a coconut bra for Hayes. Jack found
leaves for his hula skirt.
UPDATES ON THE SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS:
One poison dart frog has died, but the rest are hopping
happily and have been released. Taylor and Casey’s frog wrestled with another frog.
It was the best reality TV available in Costa Rica, according to Javier (trust
us, he knows reality TV. He works on Love in the Wild ;) ).
The grasshoppers are satisfactory, but Jim went rogue and
flew up Hayes’s shorts… We aren’t sure what happened, but he still seems
traumatized and refuses to talk about it. The “jungle-hopper”(we found him in
the jungle not on the road) ate through his cage and killed the laughing gecko that
we had adopted as a pet. We held a nice burial ceremony. Please pray for him. It
would really mean a lot to us.
Currently we are watching Despicable Me… Casey seems to be enjoying it very much! Bugs are
starting to be attracted to the computer screen, so we will continue blogging
later otiose! ß
Hayes’ version of adios….its not like I speak Spainesh!
