This is Casey, Jack, Mary Kate, Taylor, and Hayes reportingin from deep in the Costa Rican rainforest (Hayes still thinks that Costa Ricais an island… He thinks we are joking when we say it isn’t). It hasn't stoppedraining since we arrived, so all of our clothes are soaking wet. On top ofthat, nothing can ever really dry here since it’s so humid. There aren’tshowers in the place that we are staying right now (did we mention it isactually in the CENTER of the rainforest?), so we have to bathe in the river. The medicine we are on gives us all REALLY weird dreams and makes us feel loopyduring the day. We are about to sit down to a nice lunch of rice and beans(again). Rice and beans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! You could say we areeating rice on rice on rice. There are so many different types!! Hayes has onlybeen bitten by one deadly species so far. He is trying hard for a botfly or fora bullet ant, but we can’t make any promises. Howler monkeys sound likedinosaurs mixed with dying children, so if you ever come here, bring earplugsor Nyquil.
This is now Jack – thanks for the Tylenol PM Mom! Lots oflove! XOXO!!!!!!
‘Hey Mom’ – Hayes.
‘Mom I married a man named José Martén! I think you’ll likehim!’ – Taylor.
‘Mom and Dad, I bought a puppy!! He is so cute! You’ll loveher! Her name is Zucarita!’ – Casey.
‘I was trying to howl to the Howler Monkeys. Apparently Imade an aggressive call, so they all started throwing rocks at me and onechased me down the road.’ – Mary Kate.
It turns out Jack can keep a cicada in his mouth the longestout of anyone and Hayes attracts the most danger… We learned that you can’tlean against trees here and everything that looks pretty hurts you. Casey foundout the hard way that you can’t sit on the ground in the forest… there are lotsof sharp plants. Hayes and Jack have learned that barns make nice houses, andgiant cockroaches are actually nice pets! Also, we have been threatened that“if we touch the snakes, we WILL be sent home!” At least that’s what Jennysays… Hayes may be home soon if that is actually true. We are doing scienceprojects right now. Taylor, Casey, Anna, Abby, and Elizabeth are researchingpoison dart frog territoriality and wrestling. They have caught about 4 andfound out that they aren’t too poisonous. Hayes, Aby, Mary Kate, and Jack areresearching what grasshoppers eat. They have 14 grasshoppers hanging from the ceilingright now. Mary Kate is the best grasshopper catcher in the group.
Everything is backwards here; the fish eat fruit and thebugs eat meat – preferably human (raw). We learned about trees that walk. It’sCRAZY! Also, William taught us how to catch a monkey using only a coconut, somerice (it’s everywhere here), and a stone. Sadly, they don't like hugs though,so we had to let him go. Hayes and Casey have been searching nonstop for a cute‘nugget’. They really want to find the cute bats that are white with orangeears. They hide under leaves, but unfortunately so do snakes and a bullet ant,so searching is dangerous. Basically to sum up the first couple of days, whiterice, brown rice, chicken rice, fried rice, pork rice, black beans, red beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans, lentils, rain, bug spray, bullet ants, howlermonkeys, rice, grasshoppers, rain, bats, poison dart frogs, beans, snakes,José, Zucarita, Tylenol PM, Nyquil, mushroom, toads, trippy leaves, bugs, botflies, barns, bug nets, rain, beans, rice, bug bites. – and that has onlybeen 4 days…..
WE LOVE EVERYONE BACK IN CIVILIZATIONAND IN THE 615! STAY SAFE – IT'S A TOUGH WORLD OUT THERE! WE WILL TRY NOT TOGET ATTACKED! WISH WE COULD WRITE MORE, BUT THE RICE AND BEANS AREREADY!....... BUT REALLY.
(Now that’s how youblog)
